Adaptive Research Unit - Thibbatumulla

Adaptive Research Unit (ARU), Thibbatumulla was established aiming provides supporting services to the main institute and its research centers. This ARU is situated at Ukuwela, Mathale. ARU, Thibbatumulla is under controlling by Horticultural Crops Research and Development Institute (HORDI) and supervising by the division of Plant Breeding presently.

The adaptive Research unit mainly responsible for breeder, nuclear parental line and breeding line seed production and adaptability testing of breeding lines and new technologies. To achieve the targets of the main institute the adaptive research unit is mainly engaged in following activities.

Activities

  • Breeder and parental line seed production
  • Seed multiplication of promising lines
  • Evaluation, screening and selection of germplasms and purification of selected lines in variety development programmes
  • Conducting National Coordinating Variety Testing (NCVT) trails of vegetables
  • Contribute to technology development research when necessary
