Agricultural Education
The role of the Education Unit is to provide the necessary facilities to provide efficient agricultural education to produce middle management level human resources with the technical skills required to provide services to the agricultural sector for the sustainable development of Sri Lanka.
Objectives
To produce National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 06 and National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 05 Diploma holders.
Improving and updating the curricula of Higher National (NVQ) 06 and National (NVQ) 05 Diploma courses.
Maintaining the quality of agricultural education.
Activities of the Education Unit
Preparing a gazette notification for the recruitment of candidates for the (NVQ) 06 and (NVQ) 05 Diploma courses for 11 Sri Lanka Agriculture Schools and publishing it in the Government Gazette annually.
Applications are invited from candidates who have fulfilled the relevant educational qualifications as per the said Gazette notification.
Conducting interviews of candidates selected through competitive examinations conducted by the Examination Unit for recruitment to the (NVQ) 06 and (NVQ) 05 Diploma courses and conducting recruitment to agricultural colleges based on training capacity.
Conducting the Higher National Diploma Course in Agricultural Production Technology at National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 06.
Conducting the National Diploma Course in Agricultural Production Technology at National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 05.
Developing and updating the curricula of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 05 and 06 Diploma courses.
Maintaining the quality of agricultural education and Sri Lanka Agriculture Schools.
Referring students to government, semi-government and private institutions for on-the-job training, which is a requirement for obtaining the National Vocational Qualification Certificate in diploma courses.
Organizing necessary in-service training for academic staff of agriculture schools.
Conducting short awareness sessions on agricultural education for school students, farming community, teachers and officials of other institutions upon request.
Promoting agricultural education.
Awarding certificates to students who successfully complete diploma courses annually through a diploma certificate awarding ceremony.

The Education Unit operates and supervises 05 Agriculture Schools offering National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 06 Diploma courses and 06 Agriculture Schools offering National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 05 Diploma courses.

- For the Higher National Diploma Course in Agricultural Production Technology (NVQ 06) and National Diploma Courses (NVQ 05), applicants who meet the qualifications as per the Gazette Notification published in the Government Gazette are recruited annually through a competitive examination.
- Certificates are awarded to diploma holders who have successfully completed diploma courses at a ceremonial ceremony every year.
