Agro Technology Park Gannoruwa
Mission
The mission of the Gannoruwa agro technology park is to provide efficient, effective, demand responsive and integrated agricultural extension services through agro technology parks and exhibitions to facilitate the general agriculture extension services for better public access to agricultural information. In addition, promotion of agro tourism with novel concept of edible landscaping to conserve traditional agricultural values, utilize better know how, improve productivity, optimize profitability and ensure sustainability.
Before 2016, the institute was known as Audio Visual Center (AVC) which established on 1980 under the extension and training division of the DOA. AVC covered vast range of ICT application in agriculture sector. It was 1989 that the AVC decided to established a video section and the year 1994, the 1st TV documentary program (Big Onion) produced by the video unite was telecasted on national television. Since then a chain of TV programm were telecasted by the institute. The responsibility to conduct the exhibitions representing DOA were assigned to the AVC first time on 1991 for the GamUdawa exhibition from which the AVC won the 1st place. Afterward, the AVC was the responsible institute of the DOA, for conducting exhibition representing the DOA and ministry as well. The agriculture complex Gannoruwa has been transformed to a National Agriculture Technology Park in the year 2004 as a wings of the AVC. In the year 2016, the institute AVC was upgraded as National Agriculture Information and Communication Center (NAICC). As a result, a separate unit to manage technology park and conduct exhibitions The Agro Technology Park Unit, Gannoruwa was established on 2016 October, coming under the NAICC.

Brief introduction
The Agro technology park consist of over 30 different agricultural demonstration plots covering almost all the subject areas communing under agriculture. It demonstrates model home garden, museum, mushroom unit, tissue culture unit, pest and disease units, plant quarantine unit, spice garden, soil conservation unit, herbal unit, traditional chana cultivation, Yams collection, tea garden, lake culture, sorjan cultivation, rice cultivation, other field crops, leafy vegetable garden, organic cultivation, crop wild relatives, vegetable garden, weather unit, bee keeping unit, high tech agriculture unit including micro irrigation and protected cultivation, also consist of hela bojun traditional food court, seed and planting material sales outlet, DOA publication, value added food sales outlet and GAP vegetable and fruit sales outlets. The park open for the public in all week day and Saturdays except Sunday and other public holydays from 8.30am to 4.00pm. Entrance ticket fee as follows

The Agro Technology Park Unit Gannoruwa is mainly responsible for maintaining of Gannoruwa National Agriculture Technology Park and conducting of national and regional level agricultural exhibitions to disseminate recommended new agricultural technologies as well as relevant traditional agriculture technologies, to enhance knowledge, skills and attitude of the public related to the agriculture. These extension activities give fullest supportive services for the main agricultural extension stream conducted by DOA and PDOAs. In addition, promotion of agro tourism with edible landscaping to utilize better know how, improve productivity, optimize profitability and ensure sustainability.
Objectives
- To disseminate timely important demand responsive agricultural information among the public.
- To conduct national level agricultural exhibitions representing DOA on demand basis.
- To promote edible landscaping as a measure to motivate home gardening activities in the country
- To protect traditional and indigenous knowledge, technologies related to the agriculture sector
- To promote concept of agro tourism in the country to conserve traditional agriculture values, optimize profitability.
- To train the NVQ level 4, 5, and 6 students recruiting from the FS, technical collages and NITA institutes.

Activities
- Management of more than 30 different agriculture demonstration plots including rice, ofc, vegetables, home garden, soil conservation, mushroom etc.
- Dissemination of agriculture knowledge and skills to general public using verbal instruction by agriculture instructors, in addition well informative display boars and leaflets at each demonstration plots
- Conducting practical training that visitors have opportunity to develop skills through practically involving some agricultural activities specially in mushroom cultivation.
- Organizing and conducting of the national level agricultural exhibitions
- Conducting of the 6 month trainings for NVQ level 4 to level 6 students
- Organizing and playing street drama to convey some technical massages to the rural community
- Designing of edible landscaping sits, technology parks, exhibition sites and agro tourism sits
- Construction of field and name board for the DOA institutes
