Farm mechanization research center is located within the Mahailluppallama agricultural complex, about 35 km from Anuradhapura. FMRC has been established to promote appropriate agricultural mechanization in Sri Lanka by introducing farm mechanization technology to reduce cost of production, improve quality, enhance productivity & increase volume of agricultural product.

Our Mission

Develop and promote appropriate farm machineries and technologies to improve labour and land efficiency with special emphasis to small and medium scale farmers.

Goals

  • Ensured accessibility of appropriate farm machineries and technologies for small and medium scale farmers
  • Ensured mechanized farming in food crop sector

Objectives

  • To make available appropriate farm machineries and tools.
  • To popularize and make access of farm machineries.
  • To make available appropriate machinery associated technologies.

Activities

The activities carried out by FMRC are as follow.

  • Identifying mechanization needs according to priorities & constraints in different farming systems.
  • Selection & testing of promising machinery & implements with regards to their construction, function, safety & sociological factors.
  • Development, modification & adaptation of agricultural machinery & implements to suit local condition.
  • Prepare technical drawing ,test report & instruction manuals for selected implements.
  • Transfer technology to local manufactures & enhance their capabilities in production of appropriate agricultural machinery & implements.
  • Agricultural extension to popularize agricultural mechanization, technologies among farmers & other users.
