Diagnosing a rice disease

Clear descriptions and records on the symptoms of each, plant disorder, disease and insect pest are available, however,they do not found in isolation in field situations. There might be occurrences of multiple causes that collectively display a symptom.

Therefore, identification of primary cause is of important to provide an effective and efficient management measures. Following three logical steps will support accurate diagnosis of the situation.

• Evaluation of field history
• Observations on field symptoms
• Observations on Plant symptoms 

Plants with observed symptoms and/or soil samples should be carefully removed from the affected rice field, carefully and safely packaged, and then it could be submitted to an expert, who is trained for diagnostics. Including the above-mentioned information, along with samples, might assist accurate diagnosis.
