Regional Agriculture Research & Development Centre - Aralaganwila
The Regional Agriculture Research and Development Centre, Aralaganwila was established in 1982 to serve the research needs for the agricultural development of Mahaweli system B. With the restructuring of the department of agriculture in 1993, this centre was brought under Field Crop Research and Development Institute, Mahailupallama and given the responsibility to work on research and development of field crops.

Objectives
- Development of improved varieties of high yielding improved varieties of other field crops, dry zone vegetables and fruits suitable for irrigated and rainfed conditions with pest, disease and drought resistance quality.
- Development of plant protection strategies to minimize crop losses due to pest and diseases
- Development of improved agronomic practices to reduce the cost of production, to increase the productivity of agricultural lands and crops.
- Testing the adaptability of new improved varieties and technologies.
- Developing Improved soil and water conservation methods and soil fertility management practices.
Services
This staion is mainly coverd mahaweli system B,C,G, Medirigiriya, Polonnaruwa Inter provincial Area & Eastern province (Trincomalee, Baticaloa & Ampara) Only the main centre. Serves for eastern region untill the fully development of regional Agriculture Research and Development Centre Karadiyanaru. Good place to study on farm and off farm research on water management & changing climatic conditions.
- Relisting varieties which perform under DL 2b, agro ecological and collaborate to select best perform varieties of other filed crops and rice.
- Main Research ventre of the reginal soil testing for site specific fertilizer recommendation.
- Contribution to solve the technical problems of the region and coordination with other main stations.
- Through regional testing, contribute to regional recommendations specially under NCB Soil conditions
