Mattala is a recently build fully equipped airport at southern part of Sri Lanka. Plant quarantine unit is located at the arrival belt in the airport. Plant quarantine station is consist with one office room, inspection room and another two rooms at cargo building for further inspections.
Four officers are working at departure and arrival belts regulating the Plant Quarantine Act. For export and import clearance, a new building is being built at the airport. Volume of phytosanitory certificates currently processed from the location is minimal. Phytosanitory certificates process from the plant quarantine station, Mattala may increase within next ten years due to infrastructure project currently undertaken by the government.
