Activities conducted by the Entomology and Nematology Division

  • Inspecting, testing & issuing of test report to export of plants and plants products according to the request of importing country to be free from insect, pests, mites, snails and plant parasitic nematodes
  • Inspection and sampling of export plants and plant products for insect pests, non insect pests and nematodes at production site and testing of samples in laboratories and issuing reports
  • Instructions given to maintain pest free conditions in exporting plants and plant products at field level and pack houses
  • Conducting soil surveys at foliage nurseries for plant parasitic Nematodes and give instructions to manage nematodes
  • Conducting plant quarantine related research for insect pests, non insect pests and plant parasitic nematodes
  • The laboratory testing for pests and issuing of reports for intercepted samples of imported consignment of plants and plant products and the samples taken from entry ports from consignments without fulfilling the permit conditions (intercepted samples) after the laboratory testing for pests and issuing of test reports
  • Inspection of imported seed potatoes and sampling for laboratory testing insect pest and plant parasitic Nematodes and issuing of reports
  • Maintaining the pest collection of entomology division

Other Activities

  • Conducting trainings and providing technical guidance for farmers, school, university and technical college students, agriculture teachers, officers of government and private sectors, importers, exporters and other related stakeholders
  • Preparation of leaflets and posters related to entomology and nematology
  • Contribution for exhibitions
  • Certification of plant nurseries for fulfilling the conditions required for importing country e.g. for the plants exporting to South Korea
  • Rearing and maintaining of fruit flies for research activities when necessary.
  • Inspection of special samples for specified pests, identify pests and issuing of reports
